Fic: Prompt responses (that's kind of a pun, sorry!)
[ETA 20/04. Accord has been remixed and re-reading it I discovered that it really should say "she knew she would never shut him up by arguing". I don't know whether that was assumed by the remixer, but it's not a point in the remix, so I've edited the fic here.]

I came off my scooter today.
I'm completely fine. It was the water on the tram tracks, no one hit me.
I am a bit scratched, but really no more than if I had come off a push bike. I wear a lot of protect clothing.
Two people stopped and made sure I was alright and helped me to the footpath.
I was on the way to buy bread, so I walked the rest of the way and walked home thought about my prompt fic-things and then had tea and fresh bread with marmalade and watched the last episode of seson two of SeaChange, which is one of my favourites.

Prompts are still open, but here is the first set.

Boston This is exactly 100 words. All I know of Boston I learned in 20 minutes of wikipedia-ing.

C.J sat on the floor, ankles crossed on the edge of the coffee table. Her skirt fell to expose her knees and Toby, who’d taken the chair so he could use the desk, didn’t look at her.

They argued about compulsory voting, kind of.

“They aren’t seriously proposing a change, Toby. It’s a hypothetical.”

“A distracting hypothetical,” Toby said, as though the Boston Globe were conspiring against him personally. “We’re here, they’re supposed to be writing about tomorrow’s education speech.”

C.J smiled, Toby ranted and dusk drew over Boston. He needed to be in his best behaviour in the morning.

Politics

It took them longer than other people might suspect. If she hadn’t just arrived from California and if Andy hadn’t said “Do you want kids?” just two days before they met, then he might have gotten her drunk to see what would happen. But that wasn’t possible, and the first time they kiss doesn’t have anything to do with sex.

They lost that first campaign, of course. C.J. decided she was going to get a ridiculously high paying job somewhere warm.

“Drug runner in Colombia?” Toby suggested.

C.J laughed and swore that, whatever it was, she’d never come back to politics. Toby told her how he’s lost every election he’s ever run.

In the morning, before C.J’s cab came to take her to the airport, she kissed him goodbye.

“Come see me, when you think you’re going to win,” she said.

Accord

Time: 12:36 July 9th, 2004. Place: Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.

Most of the time House says that he made the first move, because there was no way he was going to let Brenda that close to him by accident.

Most of the time Brenda says that he made the first move, because there was no way she would ever get that close to him on purpose.

But sometimes Brenda claims that she moved first. House was saying something deliberately awful and she knew she would never shut him up by arguing.

And sometimes House says that he provoked her, but perhaps farther than he had given her credit for.

In actual fact, it’s not as simple as any of those explanations. It would never have happened if they hadn’t both made a move. But they’ve agreed that it means nothing, and therefore the truth doesn’t matter.

Beautiful I think piao liang means pretty/beautiful/attractive refering to facial features.

Inara’s been on Serenity three weeks and still Kaylee hasn’t done more than nod and wave and say hi to her. And blush whenever Inara looks in her direction.

It’s just that Inara’s so piao liang and refined and has such pretty clothes. Nicer than Kaylee can get Serenity to looking without more money than the Captain’s prepared to spend on ship that still flies.

Kaylee tries to explain this to Inara when Inara asks what it is that she’s done to offend Kaylee. But her words stumble over each other and she flees to the engine room, which understands her and doesn’t ask questions.

Inara looks ridiculously out of place amid the wires and tools that are still scattered across Kaylee’s space. But she doesn’t more any less serenely for having to pick up her feet. She crouches down beside Kaylee and watches her connect a trail of leads from various parts of the engine to a device settled in her lap.

“Just testing the voltage drop,” Kaylee says, with a shrug and most of a smile.

Inara reaches out to cup Kaylee’s cheek, headless of getting grease of her hands.

“You are beautiful, bao bei.”

Then she leans forward and presses her lips to Kaylee’s. When she pulls back, Kaylee is beaming at her, and makes no move to wipe the swear of lipstick from her mouth.

“I want us to be friends,” Inara says. “Let me make you some tea.”

“I’ve got to finish running this check, first. Don’t want us all to be electrocuted in our sleep.”

Inara smiles at the light tone Kaylee uses, and tucks her legs under her to sit on the grating beside the engine. Kaylee looks back at her from the trail of wires, surprised. Inara waves at the blinking device.

“Explain it to me,” she insists.

Misdirection Inara/Kaylee is much easier than Mal/Simon, but this came to me.

There are still parts of the ’verse where it matters to other people whether you’re more likely to fancy men or women. Jayne’s likely to punch any man who looks twice at him, whereas the doctor’s nervous of everyone, regardless, so it’s him beside Mal when they reach the gate. Simon’s almost too nervous to speak, so Mal wraps an arm around his waist and kiss him briefly. And that’s really all these is to it.

Remember

Remus is still sixteen, and Sirius is one day over seventeen and tenant of his very own mouldy flat in Islington. They are high on something Sirius bought or stole or conned off a Muggle hanging around behind the theatres at well after the close of the shows.

“I always kind of fancied you at school,” Sirius says, interested in committing all the forms of social and ritual suicide now that he’s legally, as well as nominally, free of his parents.

“No, you didn’t,” Remus says. His words slur together so even he can’t understand them, so he pushes Sirius away.

But, well, Sirius doesn’t want to be pushed away, and Remus doesn’t want to try particularly forcibly, so they end up kind of mushed together in a tangle of limbs. Then Sirius turns his head to stick his tongue into Remus’s mouth and Remus lets him.

It’s not very romantic. But it’s hot and wet and leads to other, more interesting sorts of ways to push against each other. And in the morning, neither of them pretends they don’t remember.

And finally, the cookie [info]topaz_eyes got for correctly guessing which Remix fic I wrote.

Game Based on [info]elicia8's drawings, here. I couldn't find a way to work it in, but in the musical, Mrs White is played my a man in drag.

House threw the counter and Cameron just managed to catch it before it hit her in the eye.

“You’re Miss Scarlet,” House told her.

Chase tried not to smirk. Cameron glowered at him.

“You, Dr Foreman, are Mr Green.”

“What are we doing?” Foreman demanded.

House didn’t not seem to feel this question deserved even a blank look.

“I thought it was Reverend Greene,” Chase said.

Foreman accepted the small, green piece of molded plastic and turned it over in his hands, glowering.

“Not here,” House said. He opened the door, “Wilson! Get Cuddy!” he shouted.

“Who are you?” Cameron asked, still dubious.

“I am Colonel Mustard,” House said, holding up the yellow token triumphantly.

Chase and Cameron glanced at each other.

“Colonel?” Foreman said.

“I do not look good in purple,” House said. “That honour goes to Wilson.”

“What honour?” Wilson asked, pushing the door open and allowing Cuddy to enter first.

“Professor Plum, and Mrs Peacock, how kind of you to join us.”

“I don’t have time for games, House,” Cuddy said. But she caught her token when House threw it at her, and looked too startled to argue very effectively.

Foreman was the first “And that leaves?”

“Mrs White,” House said, presenting the last token to Chase, who accepted it wearily.

“Why is Chase a woman?” Wilson asked.

Chase decided to hate Wilson for that question alone.

“Your hair isn’t floppy enough,” House said. He reached under the table and pulled out the game board and the cards. “Who wants to go first?”

Glad you're ok. Bike drops are very scary.
I lovelovelove my fics. House/Brenda would be exactly like that and Toby/CJ is love, especially in Boston.

It was the first, just enough to give me an idea of what could happen.

Thank you muchly. House/Brenda was such fun.
C.J/Toby was my first real OTP. And West Wing was my first real fandom. I want to get back into writing for it now that that the series is over.

These are really cute. Of course I adore the Inara/Kaylee and the Mal/Simon (and how in the world did you provide the basis for an entire episode, which probably consists mostly consisting of hijinks, mistaken intentions, and riotous amusement of the audience, in so few words?), but the House "Game" story is fantastic. I love the idea of House bullying his colleagues into all-night board game fests.

Thank you.
I am glad you like the Inara/Kaylee. I love their relationship and was a bit anxious about writing it.
Mal/Simon had to be job-based for me, but I'm not quite sure how I ended up with plot. (Although, a gay bar here just got permission to deny entry to straight people.)

I'm pleased the House one worked, too.
Someone wrote a story about House getting his team to play Risk and I love Cluedo.

I came here for the House ones, but Inara and Kaylee, so sweet. I always loved how those two polar opposites could be so close. And C.J. and Toby, so cool, I always loved me some Toby. I think when Mal kisses Simon though, did you mean "that's all 'there' really is to it" or am I reading it wrong?

Yes, that is indeed what I meant. Thanks very much for the note.

And also for the rest of the comment!
I love Inara and Kaylee's friendship.
